Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born on 25 December 1924 in a small village in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. Born in an ordinary family, Atal Bihari Vajpayee's father Krishna Bihari Vajpayee was a teacher as well as a great poet. Due to which Atal Bihari Vajpayee inherited the virtue of poetry from his father.


Atal Bihari Vajpayee had his early education at Victoria (Laxmibai) College in Gwalior and DAV College in Kanpur. Atal Bihari Vajpayee did his postgraduate in political science. Atal Bihari Vajpayee became a volunteer of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from student life and has been participating in national-level debate competitions since then. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was the Prime Minister of India three times, was in AIIMS, Delhi on 16 August 2018.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee started his political career in 1942 when his brother went to jail for 23 days during the Quit India Movement. The Bharatiya Jana Sangh Party was formed in 1951 in collaboration with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. During that time, Atal Bihari Vajpayee's role was with leaders like Shyamaprasad Mukherjee. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was also the President of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh Party from 1968 to 1973.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee contested the Lok Sabha elections for the first time in 1955, but he did not succeed in this election. In 1957, Jana Sangh fought Atal Bihari Vajpayee from Lucknow, Mathura, and Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh. But he lost elections from Lucknow and Mathura and won the election from Balrampur seat and reached the Lok Sabha.

What is Atal Bihari Vajpayee remembered for?


From 1977 to 1979, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Foreign Minister in Morarji Desai's Government and made the image of India abroad. But in 1980, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, unhappy with the Janata Party, founded the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the President of the BJP on 6 April 1980.


Atal Bihari Vajpayee was also elected to the Rajya Sabha twice. Atal Bihari Vajpayee took over the reins of the country as Prime Minister from May 16 to June 1, 1996.

After this, Atal Bihari Vajpayee took over the reins of the country as Prime Minister from 19 March 1998 to 10 October 1999. Then after 10 October 1999 to 2004 took over the reins of the country.

From 2004, Atal Bihari Vajpayee retired from active politics due to physical illness. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was shifted to AIIMS on 16 August 2018 due to prolonged illness.
