Guru Angad Dev Biography - 


Angad Dev or Guru Angad Dev was a teacher of Sikhs. Guru Angad Dev Maharaj Ji had a creative personality. He had such spiritual activity that he first became a true Sikh and then a great Guru. Guru Angad Sahib Ji (Bhai Lahna ji) was born on Vaisakh Vadi 1, (Pancham Vaisakh) Samvat 1561 (31 March 1504) in a village called Harike, which is in Ferozepur, Punjab. Guru Angad Dev ji was the son of a businessman, Shri Pheru Ji. His mother's name was Mata Ramo ji. Baba Narayan Das Trehan was his grandfather, whose ancestral residence was in Matte-di-Sarai, which is near Muktsar. Pheru ji later came to this place and started living there.

Early Life


Guru Angad Dev's former name was Lahna. Bhai Lahna ji was influenced by Sanatan Mat, due to which he used to worship Goddess Durga as a female and idol in the form of a goddess. He used to lead a batch of devotees every year to visit the Jwalamukhi temple. In 1520, he married Mata Khivi ji. They had two sons - Dasu ji and Datu ji and two daughters - Amro ji and Anokhi ji. Due to the Mughal and Baloch robbers (who came with Babur), Feruji had to leave his native village.


Guru Darshan:


Lahina ji got inspiration from Guru Darshan from Bhai Jodha Singh Khadur resident. When you started passing through Kartarpur with Sangat, you came to Guruji's camp to have darshan. On being asked by Guruji, you said, "I am going to see Vaishno Devi together with Khadur Sangat. Hearing your glory created a desire to see. Please, preach to me so that my life will be successful." Guru Ji said, "Brother Lahina, God has given you a boon, you have to take it and we have to give it. Do devotion to Akal Purakh. All these deities are made by him."


Lahina ji said to her companions that you come to see Goddess, I have found complete men who give salvation. Guru Angad Sahib continued to serve Guruji for some time and Khadur returned to his shop after preaching Naam Daan, but his attention always remained at the feet of Guruji Kartarpur. After a few days, he took a bundle of salt from his shop and came to Kartarpur. At that time Guruji was getting Nadine out of the paddy. Guru ji asked Nadin's bundle to take him home for cows buffalo. Lahina ji quickly lifted the wet bundle on her head and brought it home.


What is Gurmukhi:

Gurmukhi means the voice emanating from the mouth of the Guru. Gurmukhi is the script in which "Gurugranth Sahib" is written. The specialty of Gurmukhi is that it is very easy and clear accented. With its help people could understand the teachings of Guru Nanak and his hymns.

Works of Guru Angad Dev Ji:


Under the leadership of Guru Angad Sahib, the system of langar was widely publicized. Guru Angad ji's real name was Bhai Lahna ji. Once he heard a song of Guru Nanak ji singing to a Sikh. After this he made up his mind to meet Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It is said that in the first meeting with Guru Nanak, the character of Guru Angadji changed and he converted to Sikhism and started living in Kartarpur. He composed Gurmukhi and wrote a biography of Guru Nanak Dev.

Seeing his faith in Guru and Sikhism, Guru Nanak gave him the title of second Nanak and the name of Guru Angad. It is said that Nanak took his seven tests to become a Guru. After the death of Guru Nanak, Guru Angad ji worked to carry forward his teachings. Guru Angad ji died on 29 March 1552.


Great works of Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji:


1. Sri Guru Angad Dev ji came to "Shri Khadur Sahib" and ran the first unbreakable anchor. Where each caste could eat the anchor by sitting in a row without any discrimination and hesitation. In real terms Jat Pat and Chhat Chhat have been erased.
2. The popular Gurmukhi script written in "Shree Guru Nanak Dev Ji" in "Punjabi dialect" Shuddh "was popularized. That is, Gurmukhi Akshar was composed by Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji. This work was done in 1541.
3. The life of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was written with great discovery. Whose name is known as Bhai Bale's birth Sakhi.
4. Made a very heavy "Arena" where people started doing exercises to maintain enthusiasm and body strength.
5. Guru Sahib sent preachers to spread the Sikkhi far and wide, preaching to inspire people.


Seven tough exams:


1. Angad Dev, the second Guru of the Sikhs, was born on 31 March 1504, and on the 28th of March, he gave up his body in 1552.
2. His real name was Lahna. Guru Nanak ji, impressed by his devotion and spiritual ability, called him his Anga and named Angad.
3. When Nanak Dev Ji thought of appointing his successor, then he took the tough examinations of Lehna i.e. Angad Dev Ji with his sons.
4. Guru Nanak Dev's sons failed in the exam, only Angad Dev ji, successful in the spirit of Guru devotion, succeeded in the examination.
5. In the first examination, Nanak Dev asked Angad Dev ji to behead him, covered with a pile of mud.
6. In the second examination, Nanak Dev asked to pick up the dead Chuhiya in Dharamshala and throw it out. In those days only Shudras used to do this work.
7. Angad Dev took Chuhiya out of Dharamshala and threw him out, regardless of caste.
