In the Sino-Indian War in 1962, the 'Ahir' Company of the 13th Kumaon Battalion led by Shaitan Singh held this important position at Rejang La, a pass on the south-east approach of the Chushul Valley in Ladakh. Jammu and Kashmir, at an altitude of 5,000 meters (16,404 ft). The Company area was defended with a three-legged position and the surrounding area was separated from the rest of the battalion. The Chinese attack on Rejang La was expected on the morning of 18 November. It was the end of a very cold winter night, with light snow falling. More than the icy winds cutting and benzing through Rezang La, the location of Rejang La had more serious flaws than thin air and cold. It was made up of Indian artillery due to an intervening facility, which meant that they had to be built without the protective comfort of large guns. In the dim light of the morning, the Chinese were seen moving through Nalla to attack the No.7 and No.8 platoon positions.

The Indian Army soldiers fell on a position of readiness to face the Chinese attackers. At 05:00 when the visibility improved, both birds opened with rifles, light machine guns, grenades and mortars on the rising sugar. Indian artillery cannot be used. Drains were filled with dead bodies of leftovers and dead body sugar, although they failed in the first frontal attack, were not disappointed. He followed the Indian posts for intense artillery and mortar fire about 05:40.

India-China War

During the Sino-Indian War in June 1962, 13 Kumaon battalions were stationed in the Chushul sector. The brigade was commanded by Brigadier T.N. Raina was handling. When this brigade reached Jammu and Kashmir from Ambala, they saw snow for the first time. He had never experienced the mountain range before this. They now had to fight in the world's most cold-blooded region. In front of him, the Chinese army was from Sinkiang, which was used to fight in such a war zone. The Chinese army had all the modern scriptures and plenty of ammunition, while the Indian soldiers had rifles to shoot one at a time, which were declared useless after World War II. Despite the weather and the state of arms, Major Shaitan Singh of 13 Kumaon's' C Company was full of morale that if the enemy attacked on the front of his Rejang La, he would have to pay a heavy price for it. Automatic gun guns and mortar encirclement were kept from the enemy side. The Chinese forces suddenly attacked and literally faced heavy resistance. The battle ground was filled with the corpses of enemy soldiers. His silent attack had left India on the alert. When the Chinese enemy's sudden attack failed, he started firing on bongers with mortars and rockets at Rejang La. In such a situation there was no possibility of any bunker being left, yet Major Shaitan Singh's detachment did not take the name of retreat from there.

Out of these 120 Indian soldiers, 114 soldiers were martyred, China arrested five soldiers as war prisoners. A young man later managed to escape. At the same time, a soldier was sent back by Major Shaitan Singh, so that he can narrate the whole incident to the world. To save those injured, even a soldier tied his wounded body with his body and rolled in the mountains. They lay him in a safe place, where he died.

When Major Shaitan Singh's body was found in February 1963, his entire body was frozen and Major was holding his weapon firmly even after his death.
